A judge in the trial of ex-captain Francesco Schettino, which is being held in a theatre in the Tuscan city of Grosseto, granted the victims’ request to hold a minute of silence in memory of 32 who lost their lives when the mammoth cruiser rammed into a rock formation on Tuscany’s Island of Giglio the night of January 13, 2012. P”The responsibility is not only of Captain Francesco Schettino, who is already (indicted), but also of Costa Cruises, which has a far greater responsibility,” said a lawyer with the sit-in attendees, Massimiliano Gabrielli. Schettino, who is on trial for multiple manslaughter and dereliction of duty, is the only member of the crew or company to face criminal trial. Gabrielli also complained that the group of survivors, which has dubbed its initiative “Justice for the Concordia”, has not been accorded a special ferry for the shipwreck memorial service scheduled for 21:45 – the hour of the crash – on the Island of Giglio Monday, as normal winter ferry service is suspended in the evenings. After the minute of silence was observed by the court, the hearing was terminated and postponed to January 27 due to a national criminal lawyers’ strike./PIMG id=mediaViewer title=”” alt=”” src=”http://www.mineralfossil.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/wpid-trasp42.gif”ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
