Pope declares Catholic Church mission is to bring Jesus
(ANSA) – Vatican City, October 23 – Pope Francis on Wednesday declared the mission of the Catholic Church – to be the bearer of Jesus – during a general audience in St. Peter’s Square.
“The Church is not a store. The Church is not a humanitarian agency. The Church is not an ONG (non-governmental organization). The Church has the mandate to bring Christ and his gospel to everyone,” the pope said.
“The Church does not bring itself, whether big or small, whether strong or weak, but is the bearer of Jesus.And this is the centre of the Church, eh? To bring Jesus,” Pope Francis said.
“If the hypothesis ever happened that a Church didn’t carry Jesus, that Church is dead. Understand? It must bring Jesus. And must bring the charity, the love and the strength of Jesus”.
