Reported sex crimes on minors 'trebled in 2012' - TdH (ANSA) – Rome, October 10 – The number of reported crimes involving sexual acts with minors trebled in Italy last year, children’s charity Terre des Hommes (TdH) said in a report presented in Rome on Thursday.

The NGO said 505 crimes involving sex acts with minors were reported in 2012, three times as many as the 166 reported in 2011.

Girls were the victims in 78% of cases, the charity said in the report based on a police data.

There was a 370% increase in the number of cases of child pornography, with 108 victims in 2012, 69% of whom were girls, TdH said.

The charity added that the overall number of reported crimes against children went up to 5,103 last year, compared to 4,946 in 2011. Abuse within the family home was the biggest crime in terms of the number of reported cases – 1,246 in 2012, 82 more than in 2011.
