Constitutional Court rules against electoral law

Constitutional Court rules against electoral law (ANSA) – Rome, December 4 – The Constitutional Court on Wednesday ruled Italy’s Porcellum or ‘pig-sty’ electoral law was unconstitutional. The ruling ups pressure on parliament to change a law widely seen as making election results uncertain, as happened in February’s inconclusive vote.

The court ruled against ‘blocked’ lists that stop voters from picking MPs and a bonus that gives the winner in the House a large majority.

It said parliament could frame a replacement to the law.
