Barilla develops Expo protocol on cutting food waste

Barilla develops Expo protocol on cutting food waste (ANSA) – Milan, November 22 – Pasta manufacturer Barilla is working on a project with Milan Expo 2015 designed to raise awareness of food waste and how it can be reduced.

Barilla is developing a “Milan Protocol” which will commit signatory countries to work to reduce food waste by 50% by 2020, as well as work to promote sustainable agriculture and healthy lifestyles.

The document, which is expected to be made public next week, is designed to reduce food waste that now equals more than one billion tonnes annually worldwide.

Barilla’s initiative dovetails with the Expo’s theme of dealing with global malnutrition and hunger, “Feeding the planet – Energy for life”.
