Berlusconi ‘will be EP poll protagonist’
P(ANSA) – Rome, April 15 – Silvio Berlusconi will be a “protagonist” of next month’s European Parliament elections after a Milan court gave him 10 months of community service with enough time in the day “to wage an electoral campaign”, the Senate whip of his centre-right Forza Italia party, Paolo Romani, said.BRBerlusconi heads FI despite a ban from holding public office for tax fraud.BR”He’s upbeat as always,” continued Romani following a meeting with the ex-premier at his residence in Rome.BRThe FI party lists for the May 25 elections contain “lots of young people, lots of women, with a quota exceeding 40% in some cases”, added Romani.BR”There are lots of new faces, people who are not very vell known but who have worked very well at grass-roots level,” he said, adding that the lists were “97% ready”. Forza Italia is competing against the centre-left Democratic Party (PD) of Premier Matteo Renzi and the anti-establishment Five-Star Movement (M5S) led by ex comedian Beppe Grillo for Italy’s 73 seats in the European parliament in the volatile elections in which euroskeptic parties are expected to do well.BR/P
