Berlusconi’s lawyers unsure about moving to reopen case
(see related) (ANSA) – Rome, November 26 – Silvio Berlusconi’s legal team on Tuesday said it had yet to determine whether it would file an appeal to reopen a tax-fraud case against him. “We don’t even know if we’ll present the case for review,” said attorney Franco Coppi. On Monday Berlusconi said an affidavit from the former CEO of his US business associate Frank Agrama’s film group would prove his innocence of tax fraud and hopefully allow him to retain his Senate seat after the supreme court found him guilty this summer. In addition to a four-year jail sentence commuted to one year of community service, Berlusconi faces a Senate vote Wednesday that appears destined to strip him of his parliamentary seat. The centre-right leader said he would present the affidavit and other evidence to a court in Brescia near Milan in the hope of having the case reopened and keeping his seat in parliament.
