PA medical bulletin said the 62-year-old former chief of the Democratic Party (PD) spent a ”tranquil” night in Parma’s Maggiore hospital Tuesday night./PP”We reconfirm the absence of neurological deficits, and that the patient is conscious and collaborative,” the statement said./PP”A CAT scan carried out this morning confirms an evolution with a positive outlook, in line with the normal postoperative course of the pathology. As is the practice, the patient will continue to be constantly monitored. (Doctors) remain cautious about the prognosis, as expected,” the bulletin said./PPBersani failed to lead the centre-left Democratic Party (PD) to victory in last year’s general election despite having a big lead in the polls beforehand after conducting a colourless campaign./PPHe then could not persuade the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S) to back a government led by him after the election. The PD had to settle for a left-right coalition headed by another of its members, Premier Enrico Letta./PPBersani quit as PD chief in April after internal revolts prevented the party from having two of the candidates he had chosen elected president./PPThe 62-year-old has received messages of support from all sides of Italy’s political spectrum, including M5S leader Beppe Grillo, who used to call him a ”dead man talking”./P
