Budget proposal sees spending on stadiums, buildings

Budget proposal sees spending on stadiums, buildings (ANSA) – Rome, November 20 – An amendment to Italy’s 2014 budget bill proposed Wednesday would see funding for new soccer stadiums and other public buildings.

These would be “designed to achieve the overall economic and financial balance” needed to increase employment as well as social and economic development.

More than 3,000 amendments have been proposed to the 2014 budget bill from Premier Enrico Letta’s government.

Last week, Letta said he was willing to consider a new law that would allow Serie A clubs to break their leases with city-owned stadiums and build new venues that they own and operate privately. Juventus is currently the only club to privately own their own stadium.

“This is the appeal that I will make to parliament – that as of January 1 there is a new law for modern venues,” Letta said after meetings with the Italian Olympic Committee.
