Conte poised to set conditions to stay at Juve
P(ANSA) – Rome, May 7 – Coach Antonio Conte is expected to ask for Juventus’s squad to be revolutionised when he starts talks on a contract renewal after leading the Turin giants to their third consecutive Serie A title last weekend.BRThe 44-year-old has made it clear that it is by no means certain he will stay in charge of his former club, which he took over in 2011.BR”I have to talk to the directors, understand and assess things,” Conte said after Juve’s 1-0 win over Atalanta on Monday.BR”These three years have been tough and intense. I’ll talk to (Chairman Andrea) Agnelli and (General Manager Beppe) Marotta, who I’m friends with. “Together we’ll decide what to do for the good of Juve. I have to see whether I have the strength to continue”.BRAlthough Juve have been dominant in Serie A for three years, the two-time European champions have not been successful in international competition.BRSome pundits say Conte believes he has taken his current set of players as far as they can go and does not think the addition of one or two big names can raise them to the next level.BRTherefore, he is expected to ask for a profound overhaul of the squad as a condition to stay.BRSome reports say Conte would be willing to see the club sell some of his best players, including 21-year-old French midfielder Paul Pogba who has been linked to Real Madrid and Paris St Germain, to raise money to buy top young talents.BRThe new arrivals would not necessarily make for a competitive squad right off, the reports say, but would possess the technical qualities Conte can build upon to be able to pose a serious challenge in Europe in maybe three years’ time.BR/P
