A slice through chemistry

As this lovely crystal of tourmaline slowly grew in a cooling pegmatite (the last fluid rich remnants of granites that crystallise slowly, allowing larger crystals to form while concentrating many rare elements that form many gem minerals) near what became Antsirabe in Madagascar, the semi molten mush that was its mother ichor evolved in composition as the crystal grew outwards layer by layer.
