EC raps Italy on crime-victim payments

EC raps Italy on crime-victim payments (ANSA) – Brussels, October 17 – The European Commission on Thursday issued a “reasoned opinion” to Italy in what is the second stage of infringement proceedings in relations to complaints the nation doesn’t implement European Union rules relating to compensation for victims of ‘violent intentional crimes’ committed on their own territory.

The Commission flagged Italy doesn’t have a general compensation scheme for such crimes, providing compensation for victims only of certain violent intentional crimes, such as terrorism or organised crime.

The Commissions said it could refer Italy to the EU Court of Justice if it doesn’t comply with its legal obligation within two months.
