Elderly Italian woman beaten by daughter, critical

(ANSA) – Taranto, October 17 – An elderly woman in the southern Italian port city of Taranto was hospitalised in critical condition on Thursday after her 35-year-old daughter allegedly beat her during a fight.

The daughter, who has no prior criminal record, was placed under house arrest in a separate dwelling.

A neighbor, alarmed by screams coming from the apartment below him, called emergency services, investigators said.

Police broke down the door of the apartment where the mother and daughter live, and found the mother prostrate in the bathroom, with injuries to her head and limbs, begging help in a weak voice. The motive for the fight is unknown, but neighbors reported that the two have fought loudly in the past.
