Greed destroys families, individuals, pope says

Greed destroys families, individuals, pope says (ANSA) – Vatican City, October 21 – Greed destroys individuals, families and society, Pope Francis told a group of Catholics gathered to hear a homily at St. Martha’s House, the guesthouse he is using in the Vatican, on Monday.

Money can be used to do good, and poverty should not be sought out per se, but to measure oneself against the greatness of existence and to draw closer to the Lord, the Pontiff said. Parts of the Pope’s Monday homily was transmitted internationally by Vatican Radio.

“How many families have we seen destroyed by the problem of money”, observed the Pope. “Brother against brother, father against son”.

“Lust for money destroys! It does this, doesn’t it?”
