Human stem cells lungs
(ANSAmed) – Rome, Dec 2 – for the first time human stem cells were transformed into cells of the lungs and respiratory tract. These will be used for the study of respiratory diseases, experimenting with drugs, and in the future to build in the laboratory for tissue transplants. The result, published in Nature Biotechnology is at Columbia University Medical Center. The researchers are to turn skin cells into induced pluripotent stem cells and finally to the lung.
