Italian banned for three years for fake penis in doping test
(ANSA) – Rome, December 5 – An Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) tribunal on Thursday banned an Italian long-distance runner for three years for trying to use a fake penis to beat a doping test.
Devis Licciardi, an athlete for the Italian Air Force team, was found guilty of filling up a fake penis with urine uncontaminated by banned substances and trying to use it during a test at the race to proclaim Italy’s 10km road-running champion at Molfetta, near Bari, in September.
The ban was longer than the 30-month suspension CONI’s prosecutor had requested.
The tribunal also banned Licciardi’s girlfriend from being present at sporting events for three and a half years for helping him.
