Italian government considering selling 4% of ENI - reports (ANSA) – Rome, October 25 – The Italian government is considering selling a 4% stake in the international oil and gas company ENI, according to media report on Friday.

The sale would be part of the government’s effort to reduce the public debt through privatization of state assets, including real estate.

The Italian government is ENI’s largest shareholder with a 30% stake.

At the current state of play, the sale of a 4% stake would generate around 2.6 billion euros. ENI is listed on the New York and Milan stock exchanges.

ANSA sources said the government had no plans to cede stakes in the power company ENEL or the transport and defence conglomerate Finmeccanica. The Italian State holds 31.2% of ENEL and 30.2% of Finmeccanica.
