Italian intelligence, privacy watchdog sign protocol
(ANSA) – Rome, November 11 – Italy’s Privacy Protection Authority and its Security Intelligence Department (DIS) on Monday signed a protocol guaranteeing citizens’ privacy.
”This is a significant government response to our call for the protection of citizens’ personal data, including when intelligence activities are involved”, Privacy Protection Authority President Antonello Soro said. ”We hope it will be the precursor to decisive State investment in data protection”.
The move follows on reports of widespread US intelligence bugging and wiretapping of Italian politicians in the scandal unleashed by former CIA employee and whistle-blower Edward Snowden.
