Italian police bust international drugs ring, 71 arrested
(ANSA) – Rome, October 21 – Italian police moved to implement 71 arrest warrants on Monday and seized over 700 kilos of drugs after busting an international ring that imported narcotics into Italy via the Balkans.
Some parts of the huge operation were being carried out by police in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Kosovo, with cooperation from Europol.
Slovene and Croatian police also took part in the probe that led to Monday’s operation. The seized drugs, around 200 kilos of Afghan heroin and 500 kilos of marijuana, was headed for criminal gangs based in the central region of Abruzzo.
The gangs also sold the drugs in the Marche and Puglia regions.
