Italy collected the least taxes in Europe this year

Italy collected the least taxes in Europe this year (ANSA) – Rome, October 15 – Italy collected the least tax revenue in Europe in the first eight months of 2013, a report by the Italian ministry of economics showed Tuesday.

While tax revenue rose in France (+8.4%), Portugal (+6.3%), Ireland (+3.8%), the UK (+3.7%), Germany (+2.6%), and Spain (+0.2%), Italian state coffers lost -0.3%. ”This confirms a marked variation among countries, as was the case in 2012”, the report noted.

The difference between variation rates between the country with the least tax revenue and that with the most, Italy and France, fell to 8.7 points, the report said.

”For the first time this year, Spain’s variation rates added 0.2% over the same period last year. This was due to increased VAT tax revenue (+8.4%) after regulation reform and tax hikes”, the report said.

January-August consumer tax revenue increased in Spain (+8.4%), the UK (+2.2%), Germany (+1.2%) and France (+1%).

Ireland was flat (-0.4%), while Portugal (-2.1%) and Italy (-5.2%) collected fewer such taxes so far this year.
