PItalian marines Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone are accused of killing Valentine (aka Gelastine) and Ajesh Binki after allegedly mistaking them for pirates and opening fire on their fishing trawler while guarding the privately owned Italian-flagged oil-tanker MT Enrica Lexie off the coast of Kerala on February 15, 2012. Despite reassurances by the Indian government that the marines would not face the death penalty, India’s anti-terrorist National Investigation Agency (NIA) is reportedly seeking to prosecute them under a 2002 anti-terrorism law carrying the possibility of capital punishment. The decision how to bring the marines to trial is up to the Indian interior ministry, which has yet to pronounce itself. The airing of the death penalty has sparked an international outcry, with European Commission Vice-President Antonio Tajani on Tuesday calling on the EU to stop free trade negotiations with India as a result./PIMG id=mediaViewer title=”” alt=”” src=”http://www.mineralfossil.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/wpid-trasp74.gif”ALL RIGHTS RESERVED
