Italy's biggest ancient Greek temple about to be submerged (ANSA) – Monasterace (Reggio Calabria), December 3 – A violent sea storm on Tuesday encroached upon an archeological site from Greek antiquity near the town of Monasterace, in Italy’s Calabria region.

The Caulonia site contains what is the largest Greek Doric temple in Italy, and is about to be submerged after today’s storm devoured the dunes that protected it.

Archeologist and dig leader Francesco Cuteri has called for emergency intervention to save his site from going under.
