Italy’s leading financial index falls

P(ANSA) – Milan, May 5 – Italy’s main financial market, like most other European exchanges, closed on a weak note Monday amid continued concerns over the conflict in Ukraine and the possible effect on Russian energy exports.BRMilan’s FTSE Mib fell by 0.65% to close at 21,639 points while on the Italian bond market, the spread between Italy’s benchmark 10-year bond and its ultra-safe German counterpart closed at 158 basis points, down slightly from Friday’s close of 159 basis points.BRThe yield on Italy’s 10-year paper ended Monday’s trading at 3.04%.BRThe spread between lending rates in the two countries is an important indication of investor confidence in the Italian economy.BROn other European markets, Spain’s IBEX 35 was essentially unchanged, closing at 10,477 points and Frankfurt’s DAX fell by 0.28%, closing at 9,529.50 points.BRIn Paris, the CAC 40 fell by 0.1%, ending trading at 4,462.69 points, while in London, the FTSE index of leading British shares was closed for a holiday.BR/P
