Italy’s migrant demands ‘accepted’ in EU summit draft

Italy's migrant demands 'accepted' in EU summit draft (ANSA) – Brussels, October 24 – Italy’s demands for greater help from the EU in dealing with its migrant crisis were incorporated in a draft of conclusions of this week’s summit of European leaders, which starts Thursday. The latest draft, seen by ANSA, said the EU’s response should be guided by the principle of “solidarity” and a “fair distribution of responsibilities”. Italian Premier Enrico Letta insisted that the issue be on the summit’s agenda after around 400 people died in two migrant-boat disasters near the Sicilian island of Lampedusa this month.
