Letta and Putin discuss energy issues
(ANSA) – Trieste, November 26 – Italian Premier Enrico Letta said Tuesday that he had “an important exchange” on energy issues with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“In the energy sector we have had an important exchange…and need to continue this work,” said Letta.
The pair also discussed how to “strengthen the political partnership” between the two nations, added Letta during a news conference following sessions with Putin.
The Russian leader has been holding two days of meetings with officials including Pope Francis at the Vatican.
Strengthening rights in civil society was also on the agenda and will be pressed when Italy assumes the rotating presidency of the European Union in the second of 2014, Letta added. During Tuesday’s meetings between officials from the two countries, a reported 21 commercial agreements were signed including the creation of an investment fund holding as much as one billion euros in cash.
