Man arrested for attacking wife in sleep with hammer, knife

(ANSA) – Albenga, October 11 – An 79-year-old Italian man was arrested on Friday after allegedly knifing and taking a hammer to his wife’s head whilst she was sleeping.

He is now in police custody and stands accused of attempted homicide.

His 74-year-old spouse is not seriously hurt, and has been given a 15-day recovery prognosis by doctors. She disarmed the man after he attacked her on Friday around 6.00 at their home in Campochiesa di Albenga, near Savona, after a recent fight. The man had fled after he had been disarmed though shortly after had turned himself in to the police.
