Man probed after pregnant woman, 4-year-old run over, killed

(ANSA) – Milan, October 21 – A 28-year-old Milanese man was put under investigation for manslaughter on Monday after running over a pregnant woman and her four-year old child.

After the high-speed impact, the man put the car into reverse a few hundred meters and drove back to the accident scene. He immediately sought to assist the 29-year old Egyptian woman and called for emergency services.

The woman was taken immediately to hospital, where doctors carried out an emergency caesarean to see if they could save her life as well as that of her unborn child, but it was in vain. Emergency workers only realized there was a four-year-old boy involved when the devastated husband asked about his son’s whereabouts after being called to the hospital over his wife’s situation.

Hours later, the boy was found close to the accident scene.

He was still alive, but he had suffered a cardiac arrest and died shortly after being taken to the San Paolo hospital.
