Mayor says Priebke won’t be buried in Albano Laziale

(see related story) (ANSA) – Rome, October 15 – The mayor of Albano Laziale said Tuesday that Nazi war criminal Erich Priebke will not be buried in the town near Rome, adding that he will try to stop his funeral taking place there.

It emerged earlier on Tuesday that a funeral service would be held in Albano Laziale at an institute belonging to the breakaway ultra-conservative Catholic group, the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX), after Rome city and Church authorities refused permission for a funeral in the capital.

“We are assessing how to avoid having Priebke’s funeral take place in our town,” said Albano Laziale Nicola Marini.

“It’s an open wound. We certainly will not allow his burial, which is our competence”.
