Mount Sakurajima erupts 5,000 meter high ash in Japan |
Mouth Sakurajima located in Japan erupted 5,000-metre high column of ash on Tuesday. The incident took place at 12:02 am at the mountain?s Showa crater. As of now, no casualties were reported and the volcano hasn?t done any major damage.
It is the first time in the last three years that the volcano has erupted so much ash. Previously back in 2013, an active volcano in southern Kyushu ejected smoke that high, said Kagoshima Meteorological Office in a report. The report further added that it is the 47th eruption in Japan this year.
Volcano is still erupting and no major change has been recorded in the rate of ash spewed by the volcano. Seeing this, the JMA has issued a 3 level alert and asked people to stay away from the volcano, which is located about 50 km from the nuclear plant in Sendai, reactivated last year after a shutdown of nuclear power in Japan post an accident at the Fukushima power plant in 2011 owing to an earthquake and tsunami.
