Renzi, the premier-designate since receiving a government-formation mandate on Monday, began meetings with political parties Tuesday in an effort to forge a governing majority. Those parties include ones like the regionalist League and the center-right Forza Italia of ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi, which have already said they will be in the opposition. “We have never thought of voting for an unelected government, no less a government from the left,” said League chief Matteo Salvini, stressing the point of the meetings was to “express our ideas,” unlike the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement, which has ruled out a Renzi meeting.
