Police arrest 13 around Naples in tax fraud ring (ANSA) – Naples, December 2 – Police arrested 13 people in and around Naples Monday in an alleged smuggling operating involving as much as 10 million euros in unpaid taxes on diesel fuel.

Authorities said that more than 400 times in two years, ships were fuelled while allegedly flying flags from non-European Union countries in an attempt to dodge a variety of taxes.

Finance police seized about four million euros in financial assets, real estate, cars and trucks all over Italy in an effort to recoup some of the revenues lost from unpaid taxes.

Customs officials in the port of Naples are being investigated in the scam.
