Police arrest 35 for managing Camorra crime ring
(ANSA) – Rome, December 3 – Carabinieri police on Tuesday arrested 35 people allegedly involved in a criminal ring managed by Camorra mafia clans based in the southern city of Caserta suspected of smuggling drugs and weapons, extortion and loan-sharking.
Powerful local clans La Torre-Boccolato and Esposito are involved in the probe, Carabinieri said.
The illegal activities were reportedly organized from jail by Camorra affiliates, including mafia dons Emilio Boccolato and Arturo Esposito Pagano, who also smuggled drugs into prison.
One of the suspects arrested is a clerk with Italy’s highest appeals court, the Cassation, who is accused of leaking information on rulings to Camorra clan members and who was reportedly involved in an illegal financial operation conducted by the Camorra affiliates in the Ivory Coast.
