PThe late King Hussein of Jordan, father to reigning King Abdullah II, offered Pope Paul VI the use of the Cadillac when he visited Bethlehem, Jerusalem, and Nazareth in 1964. On that trip, Paul exchanged a historic kiss with Patriarch Athenagoras I of Constantinople, which led to the rescinding of the excommunications of 1054 marking the Great Schism between the churches of the East and West. After Paul departed, the king bequeathed the car to the Maronite Patriarchs, who have reportedly kept it in top condition ever since./PPWhile waiting for a reply from the Vatican, the Cadillac is being given the once-over by specialized mechanics in Lebanon in case the current leader of the Catholic church wishes to use it./PPThe Maronite Church is an Eastern Catholic Church and one of Lebanon’s main religions./PPhttp://popefrancisnewsapp.com/ /P
