I recently posted an image of a gypsum covered ram skull -> http://www.mineral-forum.com/message-board/viewtopic.php?p=47468#47468 Yes, Kaleb, I would say it happens in nature, but, it can be done in a kitchen or workshop, with the proper insect, temperature and solution. I’ve seen sneakers covered with it.
