Renzi says provincial cuts only a start
P(ANSA) – Rome, April 23 – Once the provinces have been eliminated, some local branches of State bodies will be scrapped, Premier Matteo Renzi said Wednesday.BR”We eliminated the provincial governments, then we will go on to (unnecessary) outlying offices,” he said in a post on his Twitter feed. “For example: what is the sense in the paymaster general of the State having offices in all the provinces?” he added.BREarlier this month, the Lower House gave final approval to a government bill that makes it possible to abolish Italy’s provincial governments, as part of reforms to simplify and cut the massive costs of the country’s political apparatus. It takes powers away from the provincial governments and transfers them to city and regional administrations, in view of a change to the Italian Constitution that will make it possible to abolish the provinces completely.BR/P
