Social worker, teacher fired after beating autistic child

(ANSA) – Vicenza, June 7 – A teacher and a social worker who were arrested in April for having humiliated and beaten a 15-year-old autistic student were officially fired on Friday.

The teacher, Maria Pia Piron, has been fired by the regional school board, while the social worker, Oriana Montesin, was dismissed from cooperative Codess.

The two are scheduled to appear before a judge to plea bargain over the case on Tuesday in Vicenza. The student’s family is preparing up to launch a civil suit against the two.

Piron’s and Montesin’s actions hit the headlines after regional newspaper Corriere del Veneto posted on its website a video showing the two adults slapping a student and calling him an “animal” and a “pig”.

The adults being filmed where heard threatening to break the student’s head with a stick.
