(ANSAmed) – Milan, may 6 – revealed the secret that allows stem cells to give rise to different tissues despite using the same genetic instructions. The key is in the capacity that each stem cell has to distinguish between copies of chromosomes apparently identical to be distributed differently to cells daughters during the asymmetrical or symmetrical division.
